HOW TO PREPARE

Bringing a new family member home is exciting, but also a little bit scary...for everyone. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Remember that every animal is different. It may take a few days or even a few weeks (or more), for your new pet to adjust to his/her new surroundings, routine and rules. And that’s okay!

  • Create a space in your home that is just for them. This can be a crate, a room, or a section in a room. It’s important for them to be able to retreat to a safe and calm area that’s all his/her own.

  • Before bringing home your four-legged friend, write out your ideal routine - where will he/she sleep, eat, exercise? What are the house rules? What happens when you are not home? This will make the transition easier from the get go.

  • At first, things may feel a bit tough. But once you get your routine down and learn about each other, there’s nothing better than the bond you will have built.
